What exactly is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state that we all enter into daily when we fall asleep and awake again.  It is a state of relaxation, heightened imagination and is like the feeling of daydreaming.  Daydreaming and Hypnosis are essentially the same, however there are two differences. One, in hypnotherapy you are being guided into the state as opposed to daydreaming in which you drift there by yourself. Secondly, while in hypnotherapy you are given positive suggestions for change.  During hypnosis the body is in a state of complete physical relaxation while the mind is heightened to upwards 2000 times more alert.  During this heightened state of awareness, positive affirmations for change are directed to the subconscious mind to implement lasting and dramatic changes for the client.

Do I lose control?

All hypnosis is in fact self-hypnosis.  Hypnosis is a state of mind where you feel completely relaxed and doesn't really feel like anything.  You will hear everything that the hypnotist says and remember everything.  You are always in complete control and do not 'pass out' and could never be 'made to do something' that you did not want to do.  If a hypnotist ever gave you a suggestion that you were morally or ethically opposed to, you would simply emerge yourself from hypnosis, and choose not to accept the suggestion.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

Anyone of at least normal intelligence can be hypnotized.  All you have to do is simply follow very easy instructions and you’ll easily go right into a level of hypnosis that is necessary to accomplish the changes you want.

Is it safe?  Can I get 'stuck'?

Hypnosis has been used for all sorts of issues such as overcoming infertility, IBS, controlling or eliminating pain and skin ailments, finding the cause of depression, anxiety, eliminating bad habits, weight loss and the list goes on and on.  No one has ever been 'stuck' in hypnosis. A few have found the state of hypnosis so completely blissful and relaxing that they have wanted to delay coming out and prolong the beautiful state, but even these few examples are always able to return to a normal state of consciousness by the instruction to do so from the Hypnotherapist.
